RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Elephant Auto Insurance in Henrico just announced it's adding 100 people over the next year. And it's not the only local company hiring now. Economic analysts say this year's job outlook is the best it's been since the recession.

Elephant Auto Insurance is adding to its herd. Said Louisa Scadden, head of communications for Elephant, "We're currently just over 360 people and we're looking to recruit over the next six months about another 50, and then the following six months another 50."

Now that Elephant moved its headquarters from Innsbrook to a larger space at the former Circuit City building last fall, they say they're adding staff to every department. "We're looking for people in IT. We're looking for people for our marketing area, for our pricing area, for our claims area. Pretty much every area we've got is growing," said Scadden. Candidates can apply at elephant.com/careers.

Elephant is one of many local companies hiring now. Analysts say nationally, more than a third of employers expect to add full time staff this year.Said Kim Costa with Snagajob.com, "Unemployment has been declining, so it's been a very strong season for hiring, especially this Spring."Heritage Sportswear says it is hiring warehouse workers and customer service representatives right now. CarMax has 73 current openings in Richmond on its website right now, after announcing in February it will add 2500 nationwide this year.

RichmondJobNet.com shows Shamin Hotels, Allstate, and Accounting Principals are all holding recruitment events this month. And Snagajob says there's more. Said Costa, "This spring we've seen a lot of up tick in hiring from Home Depot and Lowe's, places that need more people for outdoor help."For students, experts say summer job prospects are better this year, too. Kings Dominion is filling 1600 positions right now. And local restaurants, hotels, and stores are hiring their summer staff now.
