Martese Johnson's roommate: 'He's looking to move past it'

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (WWBT) - Martese Johnson's roommate and friend says Johnson's strong character is getting him through this trying situation.

Joshua Kinlaw says Johnson is staying positive. Kinlaw says he saw the video of the incident shortly after it happened the early morning of March 18 and he was speechless.

"All it would have taken was his head to land in the wrong spot and he could have had a concussion or even ended up dead," Kinlaw said.

However, an ABC agent involved in the incident gave a different picture of Martese. In the arrest documents, an ABC agent describes Johnson's alleged demeanor as "very agitated and belligerent."

Kinlaw counters that Johnson, who is a student leader in several organizations, hasn't let any negativity weigh on him.

"He's not one to let even something of this magnitude hold him down. So he's just looking to move past it as quickly as possible," said Kinlaw.
