SPOTSYLVANIA, VA (WWBT) - Spotsylvania authorities have charged a woman with 2nd degree murder after they say she shot and killed her husband Monday evening while their children were at home.

The 911 call came in at 5:45 p.m. Monday from Laurence Marie-Flora Smith, 37, saying she had accidentally shot her husband. Within minutes, police were on the scene in the 6000 block of Harrison Road. They found Sean Smith, 44, on the floor in the home, dead from a single gunshot to the head.

Detectives say, based on the crime scene investigation and questioning of Laurence Smith, they arrested and charges her with 2nd degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. She is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

The couple's three young children, who authorities said were home at the time of the shooting, are now staying with relatives.
