'What the Health' app tracks Virginia restaurant violations

You can now find out the health scores of some of your favorite bars and restaurants. The "What the Health" app tracks Virginia restaurant violations.

"We just want people to know that the app is free," said co-founder Chris Peoples. "And it's a location based app. So basically you can just open the app anywhere in the state of Virginia, and it will show you the hundred closest restaurants to you."

The app shows you the health inspection scores, violations the restaurant was cited for during an inspection, and even the health inspection report itself from the Virginia Department of Health.

"It started out with my mom and our friends," said co-founder Jake Van Dyke. "They showed it to people, and it kind of spread. We were getting emails from people in other states. So we just decided why not go ahead and branch out and see what happens."

Peoples and Van Dyke are both Augusta, GA natives. The app currently works in 10 states and the District of Columbia.
