Deputies search for clues in Goochland homicide

GOOCHLAND, VA (WWBT) -

Goochland sheriff's deputies are telling the community to be extra vigilant after a man was killed inside a home.

The victim, Alvin Lynn Brooking, was found dead on a kitchen floor in the 3600 block of Whitehall Road. The home is near Sandy Hook. The sheriff says this crime was not random and they do not believe anybody else is in danger.

The crime scene is further back on a property where Brooking's relatives live. Very little information is being released right now but the sheriff say a family member called 911. Around 11 a.m. on Monday, sheriff's deputies found Brooking, 62, dead on the kitchen floor. They say it was a homicide.

A community is now in shock.

"We're just a nice, quiet, small, if you blink you miss it," says Mary Beth Woods, manager at Wood's Sandy Hook Store. "It's just, heartbreaking, horrifying."

Woods says she knew Brooking for more than three decades. She says he was known for helping to mow neighbors' lawns or clean their driveways after a snowstorm. "I've just known him forever and it's like it's just terrible," she said. "He was very kind. he did a lot for people, he was just a prince of a fellow."

The sheriff says until deputies make an arrest people living around here should be extra vigilant. That means locking your car and your home and to call the sheriff's office if you notice anything suspicious.

Brooking's body is now with the medical examiner who has not yet released the cause of death.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call Richmond Metro Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
