RICHMOND, VA (WWBT/AP) - Jordan Price scored 34 points, including 12 in the second overtime, and grabbed 18 rebounds and La Salle beat No. 20 VCU 74-69 on Wednesday night.
Price, who also had five assists, hit a 3-pointer with 29 seconds left in regulation that forced overtime. The Explorers (14-10, 6-5 Atlantic 10) also got 12 points each from Jerrell Wright andCleon Roberts in winning for the fourth time in five games.
JeQuan Lewis scored a career-high 26 points, including 14 of his team's 15 points in the two overtimes, for the Rams (18-6, 8-3).
VCU played again without scoring leader Treveon Graham because of a high left ankle sprain and struggled offensively.
Melvin Johnson added 13 points for the Rams, but VCU shot just 30 percent.
Price took over in the second extra period. He hit a 3-pointer and scored on a drive, then followed a free throw by Lewis for the Rams with one of his own, giving the Explorers a 68-63 lead.
A free throw by Justin Tillman and Lewis' 17-footer pulled VCU to 68-66 with 1:48 to play, but Price was 6 for 6 at the line the rest of the way and the Rams couldn't catch up in losing for just the third time in its past 32 home games.
In the first overtime, D.J. Peterson and Wright scored inside to give the Explorers a 58-54 lead, but Lewis hit a runner in heavy traffic and then made a pair of free throws after getting clipped on a drive with the shot clock winding down.
Baskets by Roberts and Amar Stukes briefly gave La Salle a two-point lead, but each time, Lewis tied it from the line.
VCU led 54-51 after two free throws by Johnson with 3:35 to play in regulation, and neither team scored again until Roberts' miss was tapped out and found its way to Price, whose 3-pointer tied it with 29 seconds to go.
The basket was the first points for Price since another 3-pointer with 13:20 to play.
The Rams played for a final shot by Johnson, but it missed and a tip that didn't fall likely wouldn't have counted.
La Salle took the biggest lead of the game, to that point, at 48-43 on a basket by Steve Zackwith 10:14 to play. But Doug Brooks scored on a drive for VCU, and followed a La Salle turnover by hitting 1 of 2 free throws.
After another Explorers' turnover, Mo Alie-Cox scored inside for the Rams to tie it at 48. Stukes put La Salle back ahead with a basket, but Lewis hit a 3-pointer and Alie-Cox followed with another free throw.
Wednesday's loss marks just the tenth time under Shaka Smart that the Rams have lost back-to-back games. They'll look to avoid their first ever three game skid under Smart on Saturday, when VCU travels to George Washington.
