Jesse Matthew's past

ALBEMARLE, VA (WWBT) -

Police are still looking to see if they can tie Jesse Matthews to any other abduction or murder cases in Virginia.

He's lived not only in Charlottesville, but in Lynchburg and Northern Virginia. Matthew grew up in Charlottesville. He attended Liberty University and played football for the school, but left suddenly after being accused of sexual assault October 17, 2002.

He popped back up at Christopher Newport University in Newport News in 2003 but left the football team in less than a month after being accused of sexual assault on campus.

Charges were not filed in either case.

Sept.24, 2005 there was a violent rape and abduction in Fairfax City. The case has been linked by DNA to a murder four years later. Police have a forensic link to Jesse Matthew in that case.

In 2005 Jesse Matthew got his license and began driving a taxi around Charlottesville.

Oct. 17, 2009, Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington disappeared from the UVA campus. Her body was discovered three months later on a farm in Albemarle County.

In 2010, Matthew's license to drive a cab expired.

In Aug. 2012 he was hired at UVA as a patient technician in the medical center operating room.

Last August he started working as a part-time volunteer with the football team at the Covenant School in Charlottesville

He was seen on the sidelines Friday Sept. 12.

Hannah Graham went missing in the early morning hours of Saturday September 13. She was last seen with Matthew on surveillance footage.

Police searched Matthew's apartment on September 19.

September 21, he was charged with reckless driving after police say he sped away from officers. A few days later, he was charged with abduction with intent to defile in the Graham case. He was arrested the next day in Galveston, TX.
