We've entered the final week of the high school basketball regular season, and several local teams have the potential to make deep runs in the playoffs. L.C. Bird is one of them, and the Skyhawks added another win to their resume on Monday night.
Charles Falden scored 16 points as Bird topped Meadowbrook, 69-52. The Skyhawks jumped out to a 31-26 halftime lead, and opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run to create more space. The Monarchs would make a run, but Bird would pull away for good in the fourth for the 17 point triumph.
Bird's victory came without VCU commit Kenny Williams, who missed the contest with an illness. The Skyhawks improve to 18-2, while Meadowbrook falls to 15-6.
Elsewhere, Cosby completed the season sweep of James River with a 60-51 victory. Zane Najdawi dropped 28 points to pace the Titans, who used an 11-0 second quarter run to erase a three point deficit. The Titans are now 14-7.
