RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Less than twelve hours after a Richmond woman was found shot to death in a motel room along Jefferson Davis Highway, two men have been arrested and charged in the case.
Police say 33 year old Wayne Martin and 23 year old Davon Creer have each been charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder in connection to the shooting death of 35 year old Lynette Gregory. Officers discovered Gregory's body shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday in a motel room in the 3000 block of Jefferson Davis Highway.
Fighting back tears Rachel and her daughter Micah told us about their good friend and neighbor Lynette Gregory. The 35-year-old was found shot to death in this hotel early on Saturday.
"The first think I thought about were her kids being without her, because she did everything for her kids," Rachel said.
Affectionally known by many in the community as Red, friends say Gregory was a mother to four daughters. Micah Boggs who lives nearby with her mother is reflecting on happier times they all shared.
"Almost every weekend, she would let us go up there she would do our nails and stuff," Micah Boggs said.
Still friends desperately wait for answers and remember a woman they say was still so full of life.
"She was a really good person, I don't know why people would do that to her," Boggs said.
Moving quickly after receiving excellent tips from the public, detectives from the Richmond Police Department, and officers from the Chesterfield Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force took the men into custody. Creer was arrested Saturday morning, while Martin was arrested this afternoon.
Additional charges will likely be brought against the two men. No other suspects are being sought at this time.
