CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A terrifying night for people who live in the 6100 block of Strathmore Road, that's just off Chippenham Parkway.
Police had to use a taser on a man who they say was firing a shotgun into the air.
This all started around 6 p.m. Friday. Police received a call from a woman in the 6100 block of Strathmore Road, not far from Bensley Elementary School. The woman had locked herself in a bathroom after she said her suicidal boyfriend was seen walking around the residence getting a shotgun and loading it.
Police say when they arrived they found 40-year-old Mark Lewis Moser outside, firing a shotgun into the air.
Authorities immediately blocked off both ends of that stretch of Strathmore Road, keeping residents out of the immediate area.
One man we talked to lives right next door to the suspect and actually helped relay to police what Moser was doing.
"He fell down between the car and the porch. And when he did, he got up and tossed a shotgun out into the yard. And then he stood on the porch screaming and yelling," said neighbor Jimmy Rodgers.
"My son lives right across the street. I was petrified..but nobody would tell us what was going on," another neighbor Jessica Field told us.
Police tell us this was such a fluid and tense situation, they had to block streets before they could go door to door, telling people what was going on.
Once the area was secure, police say they tried to negotiate with Moser but when that didn't work, they had to tase him -- eventually taking him into custody without incident or injury.
Moser is undergoing a mental evaluation. He's facing a charge of reckless handling of a firearm.
