Henrico, Highland Springs, Hopewell cruise to wins

Hopewell, St. Christopher's earn Tuesday victories

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - As the regular season winds down, several teams with state title chances padded their resumes on Tuesday night, securing big wins.

Henrico got 34 points from junior De'Monte Buckingham, as the Warriors rolled to the 93-62 victory. Vance Harmon's club jumped out to a big lead from the get-go and never looked back. Tristan Bazemore posted a double-double of 13 points and ten rebounds. The Warriors improve to 19-1.

Highland Springs also tallied a big win, topping Varina 71-41. A.J. Gaston scored 31 points to lead the Springers' effort. Highland Springs improves to 17-2 and travels to Henrico for a big showdown on Friday night.

Hopewell improved to 18-1 with a 87-52 victory over Petersburg. Deonte Jones scored 14 points in the first half to lead the Blue Devils out to an eight point lead, and Hopewell opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run to pull away. The Blue Devils travel to Dinwiddie on Friday.

Benedictine put together a furious comeback attempt at St. Christopher's, but fell short, as the Saints held off the Cadets, 60-59. St. Chris held an 18 point halftime lead, but the Cadets chipped away, coming up one point shy of forcing overtime. Alex Petrie dropped 19 points for the Saints.
