CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (WWBT) - Quinn Cook and Tyus Jones hit several critical shots down the stretch, and fourth-ranked Duke rallied late, sending No. 2 Virginia to its first loss of the season, 69-63, at John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday night.
UVA and the Blue Devils went back and forth for most of the first half, with Duke heading into the locker room holding a 26-25 lead.
The second half saw Virginia go on a 16-4 run to take an eleven point lead with just under eleven minutes to play, but the Blue Devils would chip away. After missing its first nine three point attempts, Duke would catch fire from long range in the final five minutes. Cook would hit three triples, including one to give Duke the lead late in the game. Jones would knock down the deep clincher with ten seconds left to seal the win.
Malcolm Brogdon scored 17 points for Virginia in the losing effort. Justin Anderson chipped in eleven.
The loss snaps UVA's 21 game home winning streak at John Paul Jones Arena.
The Cavaliers have a quick turnaround, as they head to North Carolina on Monday night to face the 13th ranked Tar Heels.
