Bird bounces back, George Wythe grabs controversial win

Bird tops Monacan, Wythe slips by Cosby

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - L.C. Bird responded from its first loss with four straight victories, and after falling for the second time this season on Saturday, the Skyhawks hope to follow up with another winning streak heading into the regular season's final stretch.

Kenny Williams scored 29 points, as Bird pulled away in the later stages of the game to top Monacan, 75-56. The Skyhawks ran their record to 13-2 and will take on James River on Friday.

George Wythe and Cosby battled down to the wire. Tied at 68, Wythe held the ball for the final shot. The three point attempt was off the mark, but a foul was called on the rebound, giving the Bulldogs' Eric Crews a free throw attempt with no time left on the clock. He sank the game-winner from the line, giving the Bulldogs a 69-68 victory.

Brandon Holley scored 26 points in the win for Wythe, while Maliek White added 24. Zane Najdawi poured in 37 points for the Titans in the losing effort.
