HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - The Hanover Fire Department reports that several people have been displaced by a fire that broke out Monday afternoon at an apartment complex off Route 1.

Hanover Fire crews responded to the fire around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Secretariat Court, at the Ashland Town Square apartment complex. Authorities said when they arrived, firefighters found smoke coming from the second floor of a two-story apartment building.

Everyone inside the apartment complex made it outside safely, and crews had the fire under control in about 15 minutes, authorities said.

There are six apartments in the building, and authorities said all residents have been displaced temporarily. The American Red Cross is assisting them.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, authorities said.
