Chesterfield crash knocks out power for 1100

A crash Tuesday night following a police pursuit knocked out power for about 1,100 Chesterfield homes.

The crash just after 6 p.m. Tuesday happened on Candlewick Road. Chesterfield fire officials said a person was trapped in the car, and the crash happened after a police pursuit. It is not yet known if there were any injuries as a result of the crash. According to the Chesterfield Fire Department, the person police were chasing ran off the road and into trees at the corner of Woodlake Village Parkway and Candlewick Road. The driver was seriously injured and taken to Chippenham Medical Center, but authorities said the driver's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

According to Chesterfield police, an off-duty Amelia sheriff's deputy saw a car driving erratically, running red lights on Route 360. The deputy called Chesterfield police, who pursued the driver. The driver crashed into a power transformer, knocking out power for around 1,100 Dominion customers.
