VDOT Road Improvement Projects

1)      Improve the southbound entrance ramp from U.S. 29 to the westbound U.S. 250 bypass in Charlottesville in the Culpeper District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)

The CTB awarded a contract for approximately $11.1 million to Fielder's Choice Enterprises Inc. of Charlottesville, Va., for the first project in the package of eight in Charlottesville and Albemarle County to increase capacity and efficiency along U.S. 29 and provide alternate routes on parallel roads. This project will improve the southbound entrance ramp from U.S. 29 onto the U.S. 250 bypass by adding a lane on the ramp and a merge lane on U.S. 250 west to the Barracks Road exit. It also includes an additional southbound lane to U.S. 29 south of Hydraulic Road to the interchange. The contract has a fixed completion date of May 21, 2016. 2)      Construct an interchange at the intersection of U.S. 15/29 and Route 666 in Culpeper County in VDOT's Culpeper District

The CTB awarded a contract for approximately $18.7 million to Chemung Contracting Corporation of Mitchells, Va., to build a grade-separated diamond interchange over U.S. 15/29 at Route 666. This intersection is the last remaining at-grade intersection along the Culpeper bypass. This project became a priority in 2008 with the opening of Eastern View High School near the intersection and the increase in vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic. 3)      Improve Odd Fellows Road and the U.S. 29/460 interchange and adjacent roadways in Lynchburg in VDOT's Lynchburg District

The CTB awarded a contract for approximately $29.8 million to G.A. & F.C. Wagman Inc. of York, Pa., to construct a new interchange at the intersection of Odd Fellows Road and U.S. 29/460. The design-build project also includes constructing roundabouts at Top Ridge Road and Mayflower Drive, extending and reconstructing Odd Fellows Road from the proposed interchange to Mayflower Drive, acquiring rights of way and making other improvements. 4)      Widen Greenview Drive in Lynchburg and Campbell County in VDOT's Lynchburg District

The CTB awarded a contract for approximately $10.8 million to Branch Highways Inc. of Roanoke, Va., to widen Greenview Drive from two to four lanes for about 0.6 miles between Route 1541 (Hermitage Road) and Route 682 (Leesville Road). The design-build project also will add a sidewalk, shared-use path and other improvements. Construction is expected to be complete in July 2017. 5)      Rehabilitate bridge on Route 27 (Washington Boulevard) over Route 110 in Arlington County in VDOT's Northern Virginia District

The CTB awarded a contract for approximately $22.1 million to Judlau Contracting Inc. of Alexandria, Va., to upgrade this bridge near the Pentagon. The project will replace the existing 1941 structure with a 105-foot-wide, six-span continuous steel-girder bridge that will include a 14-foot-wide shared-use path with new lighting on the east side and an 8-foot-wide sidewalk on the west side. 6)      Relocate 1.3 miles of utility and telecommunication lines in Prince William County in VDOT's Northern Virginia District

The CTB awarded a contract for approximately $8 million to Martin and Gass Inc. of Alexandria, Va., for this work to construct duct banks for future underground utilities associated with the U.S. 1/Route 123 interchange project. The work must be completed before construction can begin on the first phase of the interchange project. Construction is expected to be complete in June 2016. 7)      Improve Interstate 95 interchange at Temple Avenue in Colonial Heights in VDOT's Richmond District

The CTB awarded a contract for approximately $13.4 million to American Infrastructure-Va. Inc. of Glen Allen, Va., for a design-build project to realign the entrance and exit ramps at the I-95 interchange at Temple Avenue and replace the signalized intersection with a roundabout. The roundabout will be relocated west of the current intersection and will include two lanes for traffic and a continuous bypass lane on the westbound approach. The I-95 ramps will be extended and improved to provide better sight distance, vehicle capacity and transition from interstate speeds to the Temple Avenue roundabout. This plan will require removing the Temple Avenue bridges to construct the roundabout. Construction is expected to be complete in November 2017. 8)      Replace bridges on Interstate 64 over Route 33 in Henrico County in VDOT's Richmond District

The CTB awarded a contract for approximately $7.4 million to G.A. & F.C. Wagman Inc. of York, Pa., to replace the eastbound and westbound bridges on I-64 over Nine Mile Road. 9)      Restore pavement on Interstate 95 in Henrico and Hanover counties in VDOT's Richmond District

The CTB awarded a contract for approximately $9.8 million to Lee Hy Paving Corp. of Glen Allen, Va., to restore various pavement sections along 18 miles of I-95 in Henrico and Hanover counties between mile markers 81 (Brook Road) and 99 (Route 54). In addition to the pavement upgrades on the roadway and various ramps, the project will include new rumble strips, pavement markings and guardrails. 10)  Restore pavement on southbound Route 288 in Chesterfield County in VDOT's Richmond District

The CTB awarded a contract for approximately $5.2 million to Denton Concrete Services Co. of St. Clair Shores, Mich., to repair sections of pavement between just north of Route 76 (Powhite Parkway) and Route 654 (Bailey Bridge Road). Improvements include new rumble strips, asphalt curbing and guardrails. Construction is expected to be complete in December. 11)  Apply slurry seal on the pavement in various locations in Chesterfield, Hanover, Dinwiddie and Nottoway counties in VDOT's Richmond District

The CTB awarded a contract for approximately $5.2 million to Slurry Pavers Inc. of Richmond for this work to seal pavement surfaces on roads in Chesterfield, Hanover, Dinwiddie and Nottoway counties.
