RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Ashley Pegram did not have any Division I basketball offers when she graduated from Meadowbrook High School in 2013. The former Monarch wanted to continue her basketball career, as well as her education, so she enrolled at Chesapeake Community College in Maryland, and that decision is paying off.
One year later, Pegram had several DI programs seeking her services, including Old Dominion, Norfolk State, and VCU. Pegram opted for the hometown Rams so she could be close to family and have that support system close by. Her decision is paying off. She ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.1 points per game. Pegram is only a sophomore, so she'll be able to grow and develop as player at the Division I level as her career progresses.
The guard says that the year of junior college really helped her get focused, not just on basketball, but on academics as well.
She and the Rams hit the court Monday, when they head to Saint Louis.
