The seventh annual VirginiaPreps Classic tipped off at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk on Saturday. Day one of this two day event featured five games. Eight of the ten teams competing on Saturday had suffered one loss or less, including three of our local teams.

Henrico hit the court to face fellow 10-1 team Norview. The Warriors would find themselves in a 14 point hole at the break, but stormed back in the second half, and going on for the 66-64 win. DeMonte Buckingham scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds to pace the Henrico effort. Walter Williams also posted 18 points and grabbed six boards. Henrico is now 11-1 on the season.

Highland Springs took on Booker T. Washington, as the Springers hoped to bounce back from their first loss of the year. George Lancaster's squad would take a 27-23 lead into halftime and go on for the 61-53 win. A.J. Gaston led the Springers with 14 points, while Kirvell Alexander scored 13 points and pulled in seven rebounds. Highland Springs improves to 9-1 on the year.

John Marshall went up against Landstown in the nightcap, and for awhile it looked like the Justices were in trouble, as they trailed 28-13 at the half. Ty White's club would storm back and complete the comeback, winning 60-51. Greg Jones exploded for 29 points to pace the Justices, while Jeremy Carter-Sheppard chipped in 16 points.
