VCU rolls past ETSU for fourth straight win

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Melvin Johnson scored 15 points and VCU shot nearly 52% from the floor, as the Rams won their fourth straight game, 84-60, over East Tennessee State on Monday night. VCU improves to 9-3 and has won three consecutive games by 21 points or more.

The Rams would hold the lead for the duration of the game. The Buccaneers would connect on a few three pointers in the first half to keep the game within reach, but VCU would hold the lead for the entire frame, taking a 35-26 advantage into halftime.

The second half saw the Rams pull away. After missing all seven field goal attempts he took in the first half, Johnson came to life, hitting back-to-back three pointers in the opening minutes of the first half. That would fuel a 12-0 run and VCU would never look back, cruising to the 24 point win.

Johnson was 4-for-4 from long range in the second half en route to his team-high output. Treveon Graham chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Michael Gilmore added ten points, while Briante Weber scored eight points and dished out seven assists. The Rams shot 51.7% from the floor as a team.

VCU closes out its non-conference slate next Monday, as Cleveland State visits the Siegel Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00pm.
