HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Henrico boy's basketball has built itself into a powerhouse, not just in the Richmond area, but in the state. 2013 saws the Warriors claim the state championship and last season they returned to the state title game, only to fall one win short of a repeat. The team looks poised for another successful season in 2014-2015.
Leading the charge for the Warriors are guards DeMonte Buckingham and Ryan Pearson. The junior Buckingham is one of the most sought-after recruits in the area, and averaged 19.5 points per game last year as a sophomore. Pearson, a senior, has already committed to continue his career at Navy. He posted 14.2 points per game last season.
The Warriors are out to a 7-0 mark and have big goals once again for this season. Both Buckingham and Pearson hope to lead their team to another state title. Pearson says the team is strong because it has many high-level players, not just he and Buckingham.
Henrico will take center stage during its holiday tournament, which will be held at Glen Allen High School this year on December 26, 27 and 29.
