NORFOLK, VA (WWBT) - Latrell Scott was introduced as Norfolk State's new head football coach on Tuesday morning, after two seasons as the head coach at Virginia State.
Scott returns to the Division I level after two years with the Division II Trojans. During his two seasons in Ettrick, Scott led VSU to a 19-4 record, its first playoff game in school history, its first playoff win in school history and a CIAA championship. The Trojans did not lose a conference game during his tenure.
The coaching veteran takes over a Spartans' team that was 4-8 in 2014, after head coach Pete Adrian retired after ten seasons. Norfolk State boasted one of the best defenses in the MEAC, but struggled offensively. The offensive side of the ball is where Scott looks to make the most improvement, as he led one of the most productive units in the CIAA at Virginia State.
Scott is no stranger to being a Division I head coach. He led Richmond to a 6-5 record in his lone season at the helm in 2010.
