HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A Henrico school board member announced Sunday via Twitter he's running for Del. Joe Morrissey's seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Lamont Bagby, who represents the Fairfield District on Henrico's school board, tweeted, "I am seeking the Democratic nomination for the 74th @VAHouse district in #Virginia General Assembly. #JoeMorrissey"
Politicians from both sides have called for Morrissey's resignation after his Alford plea to a misdemeanor charge, contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The Alford plea isn't an admission of guilt, but an acknowledgement that there is enough evidence to convict him. The charge stems from allegations of an inappropriate sexual relationship with a teenager who worked in Morrissey's office.
Morrissey was sentenced to six months on work release. However, the misdemeanor charge means he is expected only to serve three months.
Bagby said he is working on making a more official statement and providing more details on his plan to seek the nomination.
