Holiday Events

Good morning from Gray. Here's a look at some of the stories you will want to catch before you leave the house on 12 News Today.

Happy Friday. Richmond comes alive with thousands of lights to kick off the holiday season. The 30th annual grand illumination happens tonight at the James center. The count down will begin just before 6.

Tonight's Grand Illumination isn't the only big Holiday Event this weekend -- Broad Street is expected to be lined with hundreds of people for the 31st annual Dominion Christmas parade. TV Star, Chad L. Coleman--better known as Tyreese on AMC's "The Walking Dead" will lead the big event this year. The parade starts at 10 tomorrow morning in front of the Science Museum of Virginia-- and travels eastbound along Broad to 7th street.

And with tonight's Grand Illumination, Richmond's capitol building will also be lit up for the holidays. Governor and Mrs. McAuliffe are expected to light the big tree later today. The ceremony kicks off at 4:45 this afternoon, with the public then invited inside the Executive Mansion -- to meet the first couple and take a look at the home all decorated for the holidays.
