Virginia Union scores most points since '87 against Barber-Scotia

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Virginia Union University's Dashawn Barton scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Panthers to a 125-71 win over Barber-Scotia College on Tuesday, December 2, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

The 125 points were the most points scored by a VUU men's basketball team since the school-record 148 points scored against Shaw University on January 27, 1987.Barton hit 6-of-9 shots from the field and 11 of 12 from the free throw line.

VUU had seven players in double-figures, including Franky Johnson scoring 16 points.Virginia Union's Ray Anderson and Robert Valentine scored 14 points apiece while Avery Jirmnson,D'Andre Bullard and Austin Spriggs had 11 points apiece.Johnson led VUU with seven rebounds.

The win raised VUU's record to 4-3 while Barber-Scotia fell to 1-10.

Virginia Union now travels to Charlotte, N.C., to compete in the CIAA/SIAC Classic. 

The Panthers will face Morehouse College at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5. VUU will face Tuskegee University at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 6.
