Virginia State's season ends with second round loss at Bloomsburg

The Virginia State University football team falls to Bloomsburg University in the NCAA Super Region One second round playoffs with a final score of 35-14. Several busloads of Trojan fans came to support the team in temperatures as high as 34 degrees. "Our fans have been great all year long," said head coach Latrell Scott.

"I'm glad we could put a smile on their faces for most of the season."

This was the first time in program history that the Trojans made an appearance in the NCAA Playoffs.

Finishing their season with a 10-3 overall record 7-0 in the conference, Coach Scott said "we built on our goals from last year. We had the NCAA playoffs in mind and we accomplished that goal. Now we have to figure out how to get back here next year."

Junior wide receiver Jaivon Smallwood gave the Trojans a 50 yard touchdown in the first quarter after breaking away from a pack of Huskies. Smallwood accumulated 117 receiving yards against Bloomsburg.

After advancing to the one yard line in the fourth quarter, sophomore running back Kavon Bellamy clinched a touchdown for the Trojans. Bellamy had 16 carries for 71 yard in the game.

Coach Scott finishes his second VSU season with a 19-4 record, 25-9 in his third season as a head coach.
