NEW YORK, NY (WWBT) - -

Ray Rice's wife, Janay, told Matt Lauer in an exclusive interview she was "done" with the NFL star after he knocked her unconscious in an elevator.

“I was furious,'' Janay told Lauer. “We came home and we didn't talk the entire ride. He tried to talk to me. I didn't want to hear any of it. I just knew he hit me, and I was done. I just didn't even want to entertain it. Any explanation.”

Ray Rice was suspended from the league in early September for hitting Janay in a hotel elevator, but won his appeal for reinstatement Friday. While Janay called the incident a nightmare, she goes on to tell Lauer why she stayed with the former-Ravens star, even marrying him a month after his arrest.

“In the back of my mind and in my heart I knew that our relationship wouldn't be over because I know that this isn't us and it's not him,'' Janay said of the elevator incident.

NBC plans to release more excerpts from Lauer's interview on Sunday during Meet the Press, Nightly News, and Sunday Night Football, then air the interviews with Ray and Janay Rice on TODAY on Monday and Tuesday.
