Police investigate robbery at 7-Eleven near VCU campus

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Police are on the scene of a robbery at a 7-Eleven near the VCU campus Wednesday morning.

It happened at 221 W Main St., at the corner of Main & Madison Street, around 7:06 AM.

Chad Clinger usually makes a stop at this 7-Eleven on Main Street everyday for his morning coffee.

But this Thursday when he walked up to go inside the doors were locked and police had the building surrounded.

Moments before Chad arrived a masked gunman had come into the store demanding cash. All of this happening just blocks away from Richmond Police headquarters.
"Desperate times and people will unfortunately do desperate things to survive," Clinger said.

We spoke with an employee at the 7-Eleven off camera. She says was working in the back of the store when a person came in wearing some sort of a mask or covering over their face and had a gun."

"Its unfortunate that they are the victims of this I think that other businesses around here have also had trouble as well," Clinger said.
Police say the masked man made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen heading towards Madison Street.

This after another robbery near the campus Sunday night. It happened around 11:04 p.m. at 801 W. Clay St. The suspect entered a business, displayed a handgun and demanded money. He left heading northbound on Gilmer Street toward Catherine Street.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 5'8" tall with an average build and no facial hair. He was wearing a black jacket with a hood.

No word yet if the two robberies are related at this time.
