Henrico crews investigating apartment fire that started in mailbox as arson

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A suspicious fire at the Tree House Apartment Complex in Henrico is now being treated as an arson investigation.

The fire started around 6 p.m. Friday as a call for smoke pouring from a mailbox in the lobby of an apartment building in the 5900 block of Queens Thorpe Court. The fire spread behind the mailbox, traveling up the wall to the apartments.

Firefighters quickly followed the fire to the second floor and put out the flames in the walls and ceilings.

No one was hurt, but the fire affected four apartments and will displace 11 people.

Authorities haven't said what started the fire in that mailbox, but the Henrico Fire Marshal is asking anyone with information about Friday night's fire, or any fire in the last six months at the Tree House Apartments, to call anonymously to this line: (804) 652-3473.
