Visually impaired runner takes on Richmond 8K

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Antoine Craig ran his first 8K Saturday during the Anthem Richmond Marathon.

Craig was born with retinitis pigmentosa.  His vision wasn't great from birth, but four years ago when he turned 28, Antoine's vision deteriorated to just 4%.  That's where he is today, and that's when he decided to take up running.

There is no known cure for retinitis pigmentosa but it's believed that maintaining a healthy lifestyle helps prevent eyesight from getting worse.

Antoine was connected with Sportable, a group dedicated to helping people with disabilities get active.  Antoine was connected with guide Karl Cover and the pair trained for more than two months for the 8K.

Antoine completed the race Saturday in a time of 40:20.
