CHARLES CITY, VA (WWBT) - Delvin Barnes, in court in Towson, MD Thursday morning, was scheduled to appear before a Charles City magistrate after being extradited to Virginia late Thursday night.
Charles City Sheriff's Deputy Jayson Crawley said Barnes slept most of the way on the three-and-a-half hour trip back to Virginia. At one point, Barnes told Crawley he was thirsty, so they stopped to get him a sweet tea, which could be seen spilling out of the police cruiser as authorities removed Barnes from the car.
While being escorted in by deputies, Barnes had little to say to the media beyond profanity.
The charges Barnes faces in Virginia include abduction, rape and attempted capital murder. Those take priority before he will then face possible federal charges in Philadelphia. Crawley said Barnes would be booked late Thursday or early Friday, involving collecting his fingerprints and appearing before a magistrate, and the would be taken into custody at the Riverside Regional Jail.
Barnes' arraignment is set for Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
