TOWSON, MD (WWBT) - Delvin Barnes made a brief appearance by video camera in court Thursday in Towson, MD, the first since his capture Wednesday night. Barnes will be brought back to Virginia to face numerous charges by the end of the week.
At the district court of Maryland, Barnes appeared on video while he was still being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. He appeared unrepresented and voluntarily waived extradition. The hearing was over within minutes.
Charles City County Sheriff's deputies will be bringing him back to Virginia by Saturday, authorities said.
The prosecutor said a big lead in this case is the surveillance video where Barnes can allegedly be seen grabbing a woman on a Philadelphia street.
Karen Pilarski, Baltimore County assistant state's attorney, said, "As prosecutors we love it when our crimes are caught on camera, so it is rare, but it also gives society as a whole how scary it is and how horrible it is what happened to that victim."
The charges Barnes faces in Virginia include abduction, rape and attempted capital murder. Those take priority before he will then face possible federal charges in Philadelphia.
