Court docs: DNA from victim's fingernail links Jesse Matthew to 2005 rape

FAIRFAX, VA (WWBT) -

Court documents show that DNA evidence taken from the assault victim link Jesse L. Matthew Jr. to a 2005 sexual assault in Fairfax.

Matthew, accused of abducting University of Virginia sophomore Hannah Graham, is linked to the Fairfax case via DNA evidence taken from one of the victim's fingernails.

The Washington Post reported that analysis of DNA taken from Matthew and the sample taken from the Fairfax woman at the time of the attack point to an extremely small chance--odds of 1 in more than 7.2 billion--that the DNA might not belong to Matthew. The Virginia Department of Forensic Science analyzed the samples in October, after Matthew was indicted on multiple charges related to the 2005 attack on a 26-year-old Fairfax woman.
