CHARLES CITY, VA (WWBT) - According to sources within the Charles City County, VA Sheriff's Office, the suspect wanted in connection to the violent abduction of a Philadelphia woman Saturday has connections to Charles City, where he's wanted on six charges.
Sources said Delvin Barnes, 37, is charged with attempted capital murder, forcible rape, malicious wounding, malicious wounding with a chemical substance, inanimate object penetration and abduction in connection with the abduction and assault of a Richmond woman on October 1. That woman was found safe two days later.
On Wednesday, a second woman seen in surveillance video being dragged away and forced into a car in Philadelphia was found alive.
Officers found Carlesha Freeland-Gaither in a car with Barnes. The FBI says through tips from the public, they were able to identify the suspect and his car. They tracked the car to Jessup, MD, where Barnes was taken into custody. Police said Barnes was being held on a previous warrant for attempted capitol murder and assault. Officers described her as being in "good shape" with a "few injuries." Freeland-Gaither's mother has spoken with her and police say they will be reunited soon."She told me she loved me, she missed me and told me to come get her," said Keisha Gaither.
Barnes is due in court at 1 p.m. Thursday, but he has already filed paperwork to waive his extradition. He is expected to be back in Virginia 24 hours after the judge's approval.
