MIDLOTHIAN, VA (WWBT) - One man is dead and another is in jail after a hit and run on Midlothian Turnpike Saturday morning.
Chesterfield Police say around 6:05 a.m. Saturday, Kevin Merryman, 28, was riding his bike in the 10800 block of Midlothian Turnpike near Koger Center Boulevard. While riding in the westbound lane, Merryman was hit by a red Ford SUV. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
"He's my parents' only son," said Merryman's sister, Amanda Dolen, in an interview Saturday. "He has two babies. He has a two month old and a couple, three month old."
Police say the driver of the SUV, Carlos Hernandez, 34, was quickly found and arrested. He faces charges for felony hit and run and driving without a license.
"He hit him and just took off," Dolen said. "He was scared. My brother, he held on for a little bit. But he didn't make it."
The crash remains under investigation.
