CAROLINE, VA (WWBT) - A fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon in a home in the 700 block of Annapolis Drive in Caroline resulted in a total loss, authorities said.
The fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Caroline Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ricky Matiak said the fire appeared to have started in the rear of the home, then spread to the attic.
One man was in the home at the time the fire broke out, authorities said. He was uninjured. Two other people -- the man's wife and son -- were not home at the time.
Hanover and Spotsylvania County fire crews assisted in putting out the blaze. The Red Cross is now working with the family who lived in the home.
