RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - On the surface, a 37-0 victory probably looks pretty impressive. Spiders' head coach Danny Rocco left Robins Stadium last Saturday not as impressed as one might think.
During his weekly media availability on Wednesday, Rocco talked about some of the things he's addressed with his team since Saturday's win, and it mainly had to do with the offensive side of the ball. Rocco said the unit lacked focus and was distracted by things that would not affect the outcome of the game. He cited sloppy penalties, incorrect formations and dropped balls as things that contributed to some of his frustration.
Richmond travels to 1-6 Elon this Saturday, where the Spiders seek their fourth straight win, and Rocco wants to see corrections made at that time. Following Saturday's game with the Phoenix, Richmond enters a tough final stretch that sees contests against Villanova, Maine, James Madison and William & Mary. With a final set of games such as the one facing Richmond, Rocco says he wants to leave the stadium feeling like he has a good football team, something he had hoped to feel after Saturday's win.
Rocco praised the team for its effort and attitude during recent games at Liberty and Albany. He says that needs to be recreated every single week.
Richmond and Elon kick off this Saturday at 3:00pm. Click on the above video to hear some of Rocco's comments from Wednesday's media session.
