CHESTER, VA (WWBT) - Thomas Dale kicked off its 2014 season with two heart-breaking losses. Since then, the Knights have found their footing, rattling off five straight victories, thanks in large part to their dynamic duo at running back.
Senior Eric Finney and junior Trent Williams are sharing duties in the backfield for Kevin Tucker and the Knights, and have shaped into one of the best backfields in the area. Williams, who says he was expecting a primarily defensive role this season, was called into action at tailback when Finney went down with a sprained ankle early in the season. Now that Finney is back and healthy, Dale is using both players to form a dynamic combination.
Both players say they are not much different in terms of style, but it does make it difficult for the defense in terms of which back it will have to key in on.
Finney is nearing the 700 yard mark and has 12 touchdowns, while Williams has rushed for more than 600 yards and has ten scores. Tucker says if both reach the 1,000 rushing yard mark, it would be the first time two Thomas Dale players accomplish that feat since 1995.
Thomas Dale looks for its sixth straight win this Friday when the Knights host Petersburg at 7:00pm.
