RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Richmond Spiders will be without starting senior quarterback Michael Strauss for the rest of the season.
Strauss was diagnosed last week with a small fracture in his ankle suffered while trying to make a tackle after an interception. The initial timetable for his return was one month.
On Monday Strauss was re-evaluated by doctors and told he requires season-ending surgery. Strauss set single-season program records for passing yards, completions and touchdowns last year.
He was the starter this season while occasionally being spelled by fellow UVA-transfer Michael Rocco.
Rocco started last week in Richmond's 37-0 homecoming win over Rhode Island. Rocco will be the starter the rest of the way this season.
Richmond also lost starting wide receiver Stephen Barnette for the season on Saturday. He injured his knee against the Rams.
