Two restaurants had insect problems, told to clean up

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Two restaurants had insect problems on their last health inspections and inspectors told them to clean things up.

When an inspector popped in at Triple Eight Chinese Restaurant at 4410 West Hundred Road in Chesterfield, the report shows it had 5 critical violations. The inspector noted roach traps were covered with live and dead roaches, and one roach was crawling in the kitchen. When the inspector returned a month later, the criticals were cleaned up, but the same roach problem was reported. Triple Eight was told to establish a cleaning schedule immediately.

At Applebee's at 7396 Bell Creek Road in Hanover, the inspector found 4 critical and 8 non-critical violations, including a large presence of flies and that soil and debris throughout the kitchen and bar were contributing to the problem. When the inspector went back two weeks later, the problem was corrected.

An Applebee's spokesperson sent us a statement, reading: "The Applebee's franchisee addressed the issue, and welcomed the opportunity for a re-inspection, which was passed with no issues."

Dunn's Drive Inn Barbecue at 3716 Mechanicsville Turnpike in Henrico had 4 critical violations. The report says an employee handled raw food with gloves, then changed gloves without washing his hands. All violations were corrected on the spot.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries has been acing health inspections at their location at 7037 Forest Hill Avenue in Richmond. We're giving it the NBC12 Hall of Fame Award.
