VCU is the unanimous favorite to win the Atlantic 10 men's basketball championships, according to the conference's preseason poll that was released at media day in Brooklyn on Tuesday. The Rams received all 28 first place votes.
Shaka Smart and company have finished 12-4 in the league in each of its first two seasons, finishing second to Saint Louis both times. The Rams have also finished runner-up in the conference tournament twice, most recently falling to St. Joseph's last March.
After a seventh place finish last season, Richmond has been picked to finish fifth in the league. The Spiders return nearly every player they ended last season with.
VCU's Treveon Graham and Briante Weber, along with Richmond's Kendall Anthony, were named to the All-Conference Preseason First Team. Weber and the Spiders' Alonzo Nelson-Ododa were all-defensive team selections as well.
