Godwin, Freeman renew West End rivalry Friday

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Mills Godwin and Douglas Freeman boast one of the more fierce rivalries in the area. The West End neighbors have clashed since Godwin opened its doors in the early 1980's and they'll renew that rivalry Friday night on the Eagles' home field.

Freeman was able to come away with a victory last season, but that's not the way this match up has historically gone. That victory was the Rebels' first since 2008. They've never beaten Godwin twice in a row and the Eagles have won 19 of the last 23 meetings in the series.

Friday will see two teams with playoff hopes still very much alive collide on the gridiron. Douglas Freeman is 4-1 and has posted two consecutive shutouts coming into this match-up. Mills Godwin is 3-2 and has won three in a row.

Kickoff for Friday's game is set for 7:00pm at Mills Godwin. On the Sidelines kicks off at 11:15pm and will have highlights of the match-up.
