Bird hosts VA Beach power Lake Taylor in Game of the Week

CHESTER, VA (WWBT) - Two years ago, the athletic directors from L.C. Bird and Lake Taylor bumped into each other in Charlottesville. Both were playing in their respective state championship games at Scott Stadium, and both had the same predicament... trying to find one more game per season for the following schedule cycle.

They solved it by starting a series with each other, which will be continued Friday in our On the Sidelines Game of the Week. Last year, the Skyhawks topped Lake Taylor on the road, 21-14, after jumping out to a three-touchdown lead and holding off the Titans at the end.

Bird enters with a 4-0 record and averaging 46 points per game on the season. The Skyhawks extended their winning streak to 33 games  with last Friday's win over Monacan, but the players in the locker room aren't thinking about that streak, just the next opponent.

Lake Taylor is also 4-0, most recently topping Maury, 48-0. The Titans are the 2012 state champs and finished a very respectable 10-3 last season. They've posted double-digit wins in five of the last seven seasons.

Kickoff is set for 7:30pm on Friday. Be sure to watch On the Sidelines for all of your scores and highlights on Friday at 11:15pm.
