RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Hall of Fame college football coach Bobby Bowden paid a visit to Richmond this week to speak to several groups. The former Florida State head coach has been retired for four years, but still does numerous speaking engagements all across the country.
Bowden spoke to the Richmond Spiders football team on Wednesday afternoon and will address the Greater Richmond Fellowship of Christian Athletes on Thursday. Bowden speaks on many topics. One of his main points is to have a hobby outside of football, using his own love of golf as an example. The head coach says that some coaches like to hunt, some like to fish, and regardless of what it is, coaches and players have to have that love away from the game. He also stresses the importance of putting family first.
Bowden says he doesn't miss coaching at all. He coached for 57 years and says he loved every minute of it. Now he enjoys being able to watch all the games. He'll cheer for Florida State first and foremost, but also cheers for other ACC teams to find success, including Virginia and Virginia Tech.
