HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Last season, Henrico started its season 3-0, before ending on a seven game losing streak. The Warriors have come out strong once again in 2014, but this time around, they plan on sticking around in the postseason picture.
Henrico is 4-0 on the season, and took a big step this past Friday with a 22-20 upset victory over Atlee. The Warriors coaches and players say the team went into that game expecting to win. It marked their first win over the Raiders since the 2008 season.
One thing that stands out about this Henrico team is its defense. That unit has yet to give up a point this season. The Warriors shut out their first three opponents, and Atlee got all of its points via safeties and special teams scores. Head coach Gerald Glasco says speed has been the backbone of the defense, as all eleven guys are flying to the ball.
Glasco, who is in his second season as the Warriors' head coach, says last year was one of the most difficult seasons for him when it comes to wins and losses, but coaches and players learned a lot from those experiences. He says more players came out this year and the veterans have come a long way after an intense off-season work ethic.
Henrico is seeking its first 5-0 start since 1999. The Warriors travel to Lee-Davis this Friday for a 7:00pm battle with the Confederates.
