Hermitage product Brown excels at Richmond

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The first thing Richmond head coach Danny Rocco noticed about Brian Brown at Hermitage High School was his defensive ability. Brown was a stand-out at receiver as well, and that's where he's finding his success at the college level.

Brown is now a sophomore at Richmond, and is currently the Spiders' second-leading receiver in receptions (19) and receiving yards (279 yards). He had two touchdown catches as a freshman and is still seeking his first score of the 2014 season. Brown's role on the team has certainly become more important, since All-CAA wide-out Stephen Barnette went down with an injury during Richmond's September 7th loss at Virginia.

Brown says he's settling in nicely at Richmond, and he loves being close enough for his family to easily attend his games. He says last year he didn't get many reps at first, but paid close attention as if he were a starter, and that paid off when his number was called later in the season.

Brown and Richmond have an open date this Saturday, and travel to Liberty on October 4th.
