Hanover, Highland Springs bring contrasting styles in Game of the Week

HIGHLAND SPRINGS, VA (WWBT) - Hanover and Highland Springs are used to close battles. They've often kicked off their Capital District schedules against each other, and the last three meetings have been decided by six points or less. Friday they'll collide in our On the Sidelines Game of the Week.

Both teams enter with perfect 3-0 records. Hanover is coming off a solid 28-14 win over Hopewell, in which quarterback Clayton Cheatham led them to a victory in the second half. The Hawks compiled 317 rushing yards in the second half en route to the win. They've also beaten Patrick Henry and J.R. Tucker.

Highland Springs is also 3-0. While Hanover does most of it's damage on the ground, the Springers can hurt opponents with speed and a deep passing game. Felton Davis and Greg Dortsch lead a good group of receivers that have led the program to success during their high school careers. Loren Johnson's group has beaten Colonial Forge, Brooke Point and Meadowbrook, and has held opponents to 13 points or less in each contest.

The Springers have won the last two match-ups in this series by a total of nine points. They've won nine of the eleven all-time match-up between the two squads. with Hanover winning in 2010 and 2011.
