CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Chesterfield police are looking for a man who stabbed a dog more than 20 times and threw it into the woods.

Police were called to Timsberry Circle in the Chester area on September 14 around 11:45 p.m. and found a white pit bull puppy in the tree line near the home with multiple stab wounds.

"It was crucial," said Rob Leinberger, with Chesterfield County Animal Services, of the call. "The reality is, had somebody not called, the officers might not have found her. And in all likelihood, she would have died."

Officers spotted the dog in the tree line and immediately took the dog to an animal hospital, where she remained in critical condition for several days but is now expected to survive. Caregivers have affectionately named her "Angel."

Police are searching for Paris L. Hill in connection with the stabbing and have taken out an animal cruelty warrant against the 27-year-old Petersburg man.

"We do need the public's help in trying to locate him because we don't want him to do this to another animal – or a person!" said Leinberger.

Police ask anyone with information about Hill's whereabouts to call Crime Solvers at (804) 748-0660.
