CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (WWBT) - The Virginia High School League approved a new realignment plan that will begin with the 2015-2016 school year, and run for two years. The realignment is based on enrollment numbers.
As a result of the plan, the following local schools are impacted:
Manchester and Clover Hill will move from Class 5A to 6A South and join Conference 3.
Varina will drop down from Class 6A to 5A South and become part of Conference 12. Highland Springs will remain in 5A South, but move from Conference 11 to Conference 12.
J.R. Tucker and Glen Allen will move from 4A to 5A South and join Conference 11. Atlee will move from 5A South to 5A North and become part of Conference 16.
Huguenot jumps from 3A to 4A East and Conference 20, while Powhatan remains 4A and moves from Conference 19 to Conference 20.
The VHSL also announced that it lost $240,000 during the last school year. The league attributes some of this to a decline in ticket sales and an increase in state championship venues.
Also, the state basketball semifinals and finals will be held at the Siegel Center.
