CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A staff member at Midlothian High School is no longer employed at the school after serious allegations were raised last week.

Former and current students contacted the school system on Wednesday and Thursday last week with allegations against Allen Gatewood, leading the school system to remove the staff member from the school.

Gatewood served as a Tutor Monitor, In-school Detention Monitor and Study Hall Monitor at Midlothian High School, according to the school's website. He has worked at the school for nine years and in education for 16 years. Prior to his work in education, he served in the U. S. Navy for 20 years, including service in the Gulf War.

"The school administration was made aware September 3 by former students and September 4 by current students of a serious allegation against a support staff member," wrote Chesterfield School Spokesman Shawn Smith in a statement. "The support staff member was immediately removed from the school.  The support staff member no longer works for the school division."

School officials are not divulging details about the allegations against Gatewood.
