McDonnell family friend: 'Bob will rise again'

The McDonnells are now surrounding themselves with family and close friends. One family friend says the former governor is facing a persecution similar to that of Christ.

"He's a good man, and Bob will rise again," said a family friend who only wanted to be identified as Teri. "Everybody is devastated. They are in disbelief."

Henrico Police circled the quiet Wyndham cul-de-sac near the McDonnell home multiple times in a span of just a few hours.

"I have friends who are attorneys and judges," said Teri before entering the family home. "They have all said to me Bob must have done something to upset someone in the federal government because this jury would be hard pressed to find any corruption."

The jury found McDonnell, who refused a plea deal, guilty on 11 counts in the federal corruption trial.

"He wouldn't take a plea bargain because he would have to lie," said Teri. "He's not a man who is going to lie."

That is why Teri says the former governor was willing to open up about his troubled marriage and reveal his decision to move out of the family home before the trial.

"I think maybe people think that this was all fabricated," said Teri. "It's unbelievable. I compare it to Christ. Christ didn't do anything, and they went after him."
